Giridih district’s first FIR under the new criminal laws was lodged against an unknown truck driver on Monday.
The Nimiaghat police have lodged an FIR (bearing no. 56 / 2024, dated 01-07-2024) under section 106 and 281 of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) 2023.
The district police have lodged, altogether, three FIRs on the very first day of enactment of the new criminal laws - the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam.
The first FIR was lodged today wee-hours in Nimiyaghat police station, others were lodged in Bagodar and Bengabad.
According to the FIR, “The accused truck driver had hit a motorcycle near Khakikala village under Nimiyaghat police station of the district. The incident took place at around 6 pm, when one, Kishori Mahto, along with his 20-year-old son, Prakash Kumar Mahto, was on his way towards Bermo. Meanwhile, a speedy truck coming from the opposite direction lost his control and struck the bike, though the rider, Kishori Mahto received minor injuries, his son died on the spot. Giridih Superintendent of Police, Deepak Kumar Sharma, said that the new laws would bring transparency in all respects. “Besides, making the system easier for the people, especially the victims or the informants, the new laws would help the police authorities, Investing Officer or the agencies in reaching out the suspects and in many other ways”.
“As per the new laws, the police authority will provide required information to all the concerned, particularly the informant, regarding his/her cases. Even they would get instant information through text messages”, Sharma told the Pioneer. The IPC 1860 has been replaced with the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, the CrPC1973 has been replaced with Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023, and the Indian Evidence Act has been replaced with the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam 2023.
