The Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University commonly called as the IP University on Saturday announced that it will waive the fees of students who win medals in the National Games organized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU. The Vice Chancellor Dr. Mahesh Verma also announced a two per cent sports quota for admissions.
IPU is also constructing an indoor stadium and quarter stadium in it’s Dwarka campus to provide international-level facilities to its students, informed the Vice Chancellor.
The University’s 19th Annual Sports Meet, began on October 18, and around 11,000 students from 75 affiliated colleges are participating in over three dozen sports competitions, including Judo and Kho-Kho for the first time.
Most events will be held in both men and women categories, promoting women's equality and empowerment. According to Prof. Manpreet Kaur Kang, Director for Student Welfare the sports competitions will include Athletics, Race, Shot Put, Long Jump, Relay Heats, Badminton, Cross Country Race, Basketball, Kabaddi, Tennis, Volleyball, Tug of War, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Discus Throw, Yoga, Chess, BodyBuilding, Power Lifting and Table Tennis.
Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Youth Affairs, Sports, and Employment, inaugurated the sports meet. The event was also graced by Olympic bronze medalist Aman Sehrawat.
