Director General of Police (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar, along with 82 other police officers, was honoured with the President's Medal on the occasion of Republic Day. The medals included two for Gallantry, seven for Distinguished Services and 74 for Meritorious Service.
Prashant Kumar, who received the President’s Medal for Gallantry, got the honour for safely rescuing a doctor kidnapped from New Delhi.
Kumar, who was then the ADG of Meerut Zone, along with SSP of Meerut, Manzil Saini, were tracking the whereabouts of Dr Shrikant Gaur, kidnapped on July 6, 2017 from Preet Vihar Metro Heart and Cancer Hospital, Delhi. After the kidnapping of Dr Shrikant Gaur, the criminals had demanded a ransom of Rs 5 crore. On July 19, the Meerut police along with Delhi Police safely rescued Dr Gaur for which both Kumar and Saini received the President’s Medal for Gallantry.
Besides other medals, this is the fourth President’s Medal received by Kumar. He got the first Gallantry Medal in 2020, President’s Medal for Meritorious Service in 2021, President’s Medal for Gallantry (First Bar) in 2021 and President’s Medal for Gallantry (Second Bar) in 2022.
