On the day of Rakshabandhan in the state capital Bhopal, on Monday, the 'city administration' will give the gift of free travel in city buses to all women, they will be able to travel in buses for free from 6 am to 9 pm. The proposal has been approved in MIC (Mayor in Council). Orders will also be issued regarding this. BCLL (Bhopal City Link Limited) operates the buses.
A total 368 city buses run on a total of 25 routes in Bhopal. Out of these, 140 buses have been halted for the last one month. In such a situation, women will be able to travel in the remaining 228 buses on Monday, 19 August.
Mayor Malti Rai said that every year on Rakshabandhan, sisters have to go from one place to another to tie Rakhi to their brothers. Sisters are given a gift by the Municipal Corporation. This time too this gift will be given. MIC has approved this proposal.
These buses cover all areas of the city. They ply from Chirayu Hospital near Bairagarh to most of the urban areas including Avadhpuri, New Market, Ayodhya Bypass, Karond, MP Nagar, Misrod, Mandideep, Bhojpur, Hoshangabad Road, Katara Hills, Bairagarh Chichli, Kolar Road, Gandhinagar, Bangarasia, Raisen Road, Lambakheda, Nariyalkheda, Bhauri.
One and a half lakh passengers travel in a day
More than one and a half lakh people travel in city buses in Bhopal in a day. Up to 40 percent of these i.e. about 60000 are female passengers.
On the day of Raksha Bandhan, this number can reach 70000. Apart from working people, students also travel by buses. They pay a minimum of 7 and a maximum of Rs 42 as fare.
