Extreme heat wave warning for 16 districts in the State

Severe heat waves and heat waves would be witnessed in more than 16 districts in the next 24 hours warned Met; alert of thundery activities and gusty winds has been issued by Met for several regions.

The day witnessed extremely hot sunshine in Bhopal since Wednesday morning. There was scorching heat in the afternoon. The temperature was recorded at 43 degrees Celsius. The situation was such that even in areas which are usually crowded, there was very little traffic. People kept avoiding going out.

However, it became cloudy in the afternoon. Strong winds blew and it started raining around 4 pm. Rainfall was witnessed in many areas including MP Nagar, Arera Hills, Jail Pahari, Govindpura, Tulsi Nagar. Even after this it remained cloudy till evening.

There is a trend of scorching heat in Bhopal in the month of May. In 8 out of 10 years the temperature has crossed 44 degrees. In the year 2016, this record was 46.7 degrees. This year, the heat remained mild in the first fortnight, but from May 18 onwards it started becoming extremely hot. On Tuesday, May 21, the mercury reached a record 43.3 degrees Celsius. On Wednesday there was also severe heat in the morning.

The temperature remained around 40 degrees in April, but it is expected to be hotter in May. The average maximum temperature of the month is 41.1 degrees and the minimum temperature is 26.6 degrees. In the last 10 years the mercury has remained above 43 degrees. It has even crossed 46 degrees once.

Due to Western Disturbance, there are sometimes rainy periods in North India. Along with lightning and thunder, it also rains. It has also rained in the last 10 years.

The highest temperature of 45 degrees was recorded in Ratlam. Ratlam remained the hottest in the state for the second consecutive day. Whereas, Bhopal and Indore were the hottest of the season.

On Wednesday, the maximum day temperature was 43.9 degrees in Bhopal, 43.4 degrees in Indore, 43.7 degrees in Gwalior, 43.8 degrees in Ujjain and 42 degrees in Jabalpur. Whereas in Shivpuri, Sagar, Naugaon, Datia, Guna, Khajuraho, Khandwa, Khargone, Shajapur, Damoh and Dhar, the temperature was recorded at 44 degrees or more.

It rained in Budni of Sehore. The Meteorological Department has also issued an alert of thunderstorm and rain in Betul, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Seoni, Balaghat on Wednesday.

The cities with maximum temperatures were Ratlam 45 degrees  celsius, Bhopal 43.9 degrees celsius, Ujjain 43.8 degrees celsius,Gwalior 43.7 degrees celsius,Indore 43.4 degrees celsius and Jabalpur 42 degrees celsius.

These days the temperature is rising in almost all the districts of the state. The day becomes intensely hot due to bright sunlight from the morning itself, while the nights are also hot. Along with Gwalior-Chambal, now Malwa-Nimar is also hot. Here the day temperature reaches beyond 45 degrees. Senior meteorologist of IMD, Bhopal, Dr. Vedprakash Singh said, the entire state will be in the grip of heat wave from May 24-25.

Due to the scorching heat in Maheshwar of Khargone district, people are flocking to the banks of Narmada as the evening approaches. Getting relief from the heat by taking a bath in the river.

The temperature of Jabalpur has been reaching beyond 42 degrees for the last three days, in such a situation, Jabalpur Municipal Corporation has taken initiative to provide relief to the people of Jabalpur. Defogger machines are being run at major intersections of the city. People are being provided coolness through artificial rain i.e. water fogging.

In Ratlam's Alot, Shri Govardhan Gaushala is spraying water on the cows to save them from the heat. There are about 470 cows in the cowshed. There is severe heat in the area. The temperature here has been above 43 degrees for three days.
