In a bold move to bolster sports excellence, Punjab on Thursday unveiled substantial financial incentives for athletes representing the State at the upcoming Paris Olympic Games. Under the visionary sports policy, each player from the state of Punjab at the Olympics will receive Rs 15 lakh for their preparation efforts. Additionally, the winners of Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals will be awarded cash prizes of Rs three crore, Rs two crore, and Rs one crore respectively.

Announcing these incentives, the state’s Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said that it underscored Punjab’s commitment to nurturing and supporting its sporting talent on the global stage.

Speaking passionately about the new policy, Meet Hayer highlighted its immediate impact on the sporting landscape of Punjab. “The results of our new sports policy are already visible, with a significant number of Punjabi athletes gearing up to represent the State at the Paris Olympics,” he said.

He expressed confidence that Punjab would surpass previous records, setting new benchmarks in Olympic participation and medal victories.

“Currently, six shooters from Punjab have been selected, with more athletes expected to join in disciplines such as Hockey, Shooting, and Athletics as national team announcements unfold,” Meet Hayer elaborated. He emphasized Punjab’s legacy as a pioneer in Indian sports, echoing the state’s determination to reclaim its prominent position in nurturing sporting talent.

Meet Hayer also underscored ongoing initiatives aimed at grassroots development and infrastructure enhancement across Punjab. “The establishment of Sports Nurseries and the construction of sports infrastructure in villages and towns are progressing rapidly,” he affirmed. He urged the officials to expedite these efforts to foster a robust sports culture throughout the State.
