Two people were killed and 16 others sustained injuries after the double-decker bus they were traveling by rammed into a parked truck in the Hathras district, an official said on Thursday.
The incident occurred in Toli village of Hathras under the Sikandra Rao police station limits.
“Two people have died in this accident and about 16 people are injured,” Hathras District Magistrate Ashish Kumar said.
According to the district magistrate, the double-decker bus was heading from Miyanganj to Chandigarh. In the Toli village the bus rammed into a truck parked at the roadside due to the negligence of the bus driver, leaving two dead and 16 injured. Upon receiving information, Hathras Superintendent of Police Nipun Aggarwal along with the police officials rushed to the spot and carried out a rescue operation. The injured have been admitted to the hospital. An investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognisance of the Hathras incident and directed the officials to ensure proper treatment for the injured, an official statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said. Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the loss of lives.
The incident comes a day after a similar accident took place in Unnao in which 18 people were killed and 19 injured when a double-decker sleeper bus headed for Delhi hit a milk tanker on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway. The accident occurred around 5 am near Jojikot village in Behta Mujawar police station area.
