Door-to-door verification for voter list revision to start, to cover left out voters

Tuesday, 25 June 2024 | PNS | Jamshedpur

As per the directives of the District Election Officer, Ananya Mittal, a comprehensive meeting was held to prepare for the upcoming second special voter list revision program. The meeting, attended by Assistant Returning Officers (AROs), Additional Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), representatives of political parties, Booth Level Officer (BLO) supervisors, and BLOs, aimed to outline and discuss the execution of the voter list revision program scheduled to run from 25th June to 24th July 2024.

The Election Commission has mandated this special voter list revision program to ensure a thorough and updated voter registry, with 01 July 2024 as the eligibility date. This initiative aims to include new voters, verify existing entries, and correct discrepancies to maintain an accurate and current electoral roll.

During the meeting, AROs and AEROs from all six assembly constituencies briefed the attendees on the program's objectives and the procedural framework. They emphasized the importance of meticulous preparation and the collaborative efforts needed from all stakeholders to achieve the desired outcomes.

One of the primary activities of this program is the door-to-door verification by BLOs. This comprehensive process includes: Registration of Left Out Voters**: Ensuring that all eligible voters who have not yet been registered are added to the voter list. Verification of EPIC: Confirming the validity and accuracy of Elector Photo Identity Cards.

Identification of Black and White Image Cards**: Updating outdated voter identification cards with current photographs. New Voter Enrollment**: Enrolling citizens who have turned 18 by 01 July 2024. Updating Records**: Filling Form-7 for voters who are absent, have shifted residence, or are deceased.

The program also involves assessing polling stations to ensure they are capable of accommodating voters efficiently. This includes: Identifying polling stations with more than 1500 voters and addressing the need for additional facilities or splitting polling stations for better management. Evaluating the condition of polling stations and identifying any that have become dilapidated, necessitating relocation to more suitable venues.

The meeting underscored the crucial role of political parties in this process. Representatives were urged to cooperate fully to ensure no eligible voter is excluded from the revised list. Their support is vital in reaching out to the community and facilitating smooth operations during the verification and enrollment process.

District Election Officer Ananya Mittal and other officials appealed for active participation and support from all political parties and stakeholders involved. Their cooperation is essential in achieving a comprehensive and accurate voter list revision.

The meeting concluded with a unanimous commitment from all present to work diligently and collaboratively towards the successful implementation of the voter list revision program. This initiative is a critical step in strengthening the democratic process by ensuring every eligible voter is accurately registered and able to exercise their right to vote.

The district administration is confident that with the concerted efforts of all involved, the special voter list revision program will be a resounding success, paving the way for a more inclusive and representative electoral process.
