A doctor and lady nurse on duty at Dwarka's Indira Gandhi Hospital was allegedly cussed at by two intoxicated men who became aggressive after they were told that x-ray services were unavailable at the hospital in the early hours of Sunday.

The incident occurred around 4 am Sunday when the two came to the hospital with one of them having a glass cut on his right hand. Dwarka Deputy Commissioner of Police Ankit Singh, said, " On Sunday, a PCR call was received in Dwarka South police station regarding a quarrel at Indira Gandhi Hospital, Sector-9 Dwarka.”

There was no physical assault, but the incident involved misbehaviour by the patients. “Police reached at the hospital and met the caller - Dr. Manohar Lal, in Emergency Department who stated that, at about 4.15 AM, two intoxicated persons arrived at emergency ward and one of them identified as Sonu, resident of Shahbad Mohammadpur, injured was undergoing treatment,” the DCP said.

An altercation ensued over the point of bereftness of X-Ray facility at night. Dr Manohar Lal, who was on duty that night and the complainant, said that the men abused him verbally when he asked them to visit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in west Delhi.

"I explained that he needed to go to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital because after 8 pm, our hospital no longer had x-ray services available, and due to his glass wound, an x-ray was required," Dr Lal said.

"When I asked him to go to the hospital, he began abusing me. Meanwhile, another patient with low blood pressure and other health issues came into the emergency room. As this patient was in a critical condition, I began treating him. At this point, the first patient started filming me, accusing me of ignoring his treatment and attending to another patient. They continued filming and verbally abusing me," he added.

The two men, however, decamped after the doctor called security. The Federation of All India Medical Associations condemned the incident and highlighted the mental trauma experienced by healthcare providers.

“Facts are being verified, alleged persons have been identified and search for them is on. Appropriate legal action is being taken,” Singh added.
