Direct recruitment to senior posts in Centre unconstitutional: Maya

Monday, 19 August 2024 | PNS | Lucknow

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Sunday attacked the Central government over its recent controversial move to fill senior administrative positions in the Centre through a direct recruitment.

Former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati, took to social media platform `X’ and said, “The decision of the Centre to fill 45 senior positions, including joint secretary, director, and under secretary, through a direct recruitment is unconstitutional.  This approach will deny promotion opportunities to existing lower-level employees and potentially violate constitutional provisions related to the reservation of positions for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Class categories.”

She contended that filling these high-ranking posts without established rules amounts to arbitrary and unconstitutional action by the Bharatiya Janata Party government.

Mayawati also targeted the BJP government in Rajasthan and specially attacked the “bulldozer” politics.

“In Udaipur, Rajasthan, the state government’s handling of a recent incident involving a dispute between two schoolchildren is totally unlawful,” Mayawati claimed.

“`Following the altercation, the government demolished the alleged offender’s house with a bulldozer, a move which undermines the rule of law. There are calls for the court to take note of this action, which is a violation of legal principles,” she posted.

“In BJP-ruled states, concerns are also being raised about political actions perceived as attempts to obscure issues related to poor law and order. Such actions are inappropriate and call for the government to ensure the impartial enforcement of laws and to act as a true guardian of justice,” Mayawati advised.
