Delhi Police announce traffic advisory, route diversions for New Year’s eve

To ensure the smooth flow of traffic on New Year's Eve, the Delhi Traffic Police have issued a traffic advisory for a smooth regulation of traffic in the entire national capital. The advisory has said that no vehicular movement will be allowed in the inner, middle or outer circle of Connaught Place except for those with valid access. The restrictions listed in the advisory will take effect from 8 pm on December 31, till the conclusion of New Year celebrations. It will apply to all private and public transport vehicles.

A senior officer said traffic personnel will be deployed in adequate strength at various areas of the city. The main focus will be at the markets, near malls, and the areas where people come for the celebrations like Connaught Place, Hauz Khas etc. Restrictions shall be imposed from 8 pm onwards on Tuesday in the area of Connaught Place till the end of New Year celebrations. It will be applicable to all private and public transport vehicles, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dhal Singh said. The DCP said strict action shall be taken against drunken driving, over speeding, stunt biking, reckless driving, zig-zag and dangerous driving, etc.

The Traffic Police said that special arrangements and deployment have been made in view of the celebrations. Delhi Traffic Police has made elaborate traffic arrangements, at and around India Gate for regulation of traffic both pedestrian and vehicular.

No vehicle will be allowed to proceed towards Connaught Place beyond Mandi House  round about, round, Bengali Market round about, North foot of Ranjit Singh Flyover,  Minto Road – Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg crossing,  Chelmsford Road near Munje Chowk (New Delhi Rly. Station),  R.K. Ashram Marg-Chitragupta Marg Crossing,  Gole Market  round about, roundabout G.P.O., New Delhi, Patel Chowk , Kasturba Gandhi Road - Ferozeshah Road Crossing , Jai Singh Road-Bangla Sahib Lane, Bangla Sahib Lane, Panchkuian Road - Bangla Sahib Lane and round about Windsor place. No vehicular traffic shall be allowed in inner, middle or outer circle of Connaught Place except for those that are carrying valid Passes.

Motorists can park their vehicles at the following places in the vicinity of Connaught Place: Near Gole Dak Khana on(a) Kali Bari Marg (b) Pt. Pant Marg(c) Bhai Veer Singh Marg,  near Patel Chowk on Rakab Ganj Road behind AIR, near Mandi House on Copernicus Marg upto Baroda House, near Minto Road on D.D. Upadhaya Marg and Press Road area, near Panchkuian Road on R.K. Ashram Marg, Chitragupta Road &Basant Road towards PaharGanj,  near K.G. Marg-Ferozshah Road Crossing on Copernicus Lane as well as K.G.Marg towards C hexagon,  near round about Bengali market – on Babar Road and Tansen Marg, near Windsor Place, Rajender Prasad Road, Raisina Road, near Gole Market at Peshwa Road, Service Road along Bhai Veer Singh Marg  and R K Ashram Road and near R/A Buta Singh on JantarMantar Road, Raisina Road.

Places across the city where these celebrations will take place include Surya Hotel at New Friends Colony, Eros Hotel, Crown Plaza Hotel, Nehru Place South Exension Market, Select City Walk Mall Saket, Qutub Minar, Prominade Mall, Radisson Blu Hotel, Mahipal Pur Janak Puri District Centre and many others including Connaught Place.

According to the advisory, limited parking space will be available near Connaught Place on first come first serve basis. Unauthorised parked vehicles shall be towed away and prosecuted.

Delhi Traffic Police has made elaborate traffic arrangements, at and around India Gate for regulation of traffic both pedestrian and vehicular.

In case of heavy pedestrian movement, vehicles may not be allowed to go through C-Hexagon, India Gate area and diverted from the following place include Q-Point, round about MLNP, roundabout Sunehri Masjid, roundabout Mar-Janpath, Rajpath Rafi Marg, roundabout Windsor Place, roundabout Rajendra Prasad Road-Janpath, KG Marg-Feroze Shah Road, roundabout Mandi House, W point, Mathura Road-Purana Qila Road, Mathura Road Sher Shah Road, SBM-Zakir Hussain Road. Visitors are advised to use public transport as there is shortage of parking space at India Gate.

“In view of large gathering expected at Delhi Zoo resulting in congestion on Mathura Road, the General Public/Motorists are advised to avoid Bhairon Road/Mathura Road between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Pragati Maidan,” it said.

The police have warned that strict action shall be taken against drunken driving (U/S 185 MVA), over speeding (U/S 112/183 MVA), stunt biking, reckless driving, zig-zag and dangerous driving (U/S 184 MVA).

Commuters can take the Ring Road from ISBT to the Ashram or via Delhi Gate, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Mathura Road to reach Ashram and vice-versa or via ISBT, Rani Jhansi Marg, Panchkuian Road, Mandir Marg, Park Street, Mother Teresa Crescent Road & beyond or via Rani Jhansi Marg, Panchkuian Road, Hanuman Murti, Ring Road.
