Climate change, pollution, and rapidly declining biodiversity are the major factors causing environmental imbalance around the world. According to a recent report, human activities have warmed the planet by about 1.1 degrees Celsius, leading to extreme weather conditions such as rising sea levels, heat waves, droughts, and floods. Climate change is causing extreme weather conditions such as heat, drought, and floods to occur five times more frequently, said Prestige Education Foundation Chairman, Dr. Davish Jain, here on World Environment Day.
Quoting India's 2022 Environmental Report, Jain said that although India's air quality has improved slightly in recent years, it is still the worst in the world. He said India contributes 7% to global greenhouse gas emissions. Deforestation and greenhouse gas emissions are major causes of global warming.
Jain stressed the need to adopt the mantra of reduce, reuse, and recycle to maintain environmental balance in the country, along with adopting renewable energy and planting a large number of trees. He called upon the people to contribute individually and collectively to preserve the environment.
