Former MP and senior Congress leader Jai Prakash Agarwal, who is contesting from Chandni Chowk on Saturday met prominent people of Valmiki Samaj and highlighted works done by the previous Congress regime. He also accused the Modi government for neglecting the Chandni Chowk region.

“My first priority after becoming an MP from the area will be to check price rise and unemployment, and raise the problems of the constituency in the Lok Sabha,” he said.

Agarwal, who is the candidate of the INDIA alliance in Delhi, visited some prominent colonies in the Chandni Chowk constituency like Model Town, Civil Lines, Ashok Vihar, Chandrawal and Majnu Ka Tila, and interacted with the people to understand the problems they faced, and sought their support for his victory. He was accompanied by Block president Rahul Dabla.

Rohtas Kumar of Valmiki Samaj convened a meeting at Chandrawal area in which prominent people from the Valmiki Samaj, Jatav Samaj and Koli Samaj were present. They told Agarwal about price rise, unemployment, and contract labour, and how these issues have affected the Valmiki community the most, putting the blame on the indifference of the Modi Government towards the plight of the poor people. Agarwal assured them that he would take up their problems when they elect him as their MP, and his top priority would be to solve the problems of the Dalits, the poor and the marginalised.

He also participated in the Khatu Shyam Sankeertan Mahotsav, organised by the Govardhan Mitr Mandal to receive the blessings of Lord Khatu Shyam.
