Concerted efforts must to eradicate sickle cell and TB: Guv

Sickle cell anemia is a genetic disease and is highly prevalent in tribal community. Similarly, There are high number of cases of TB among tribals. There is need to eradicate these diseases through extensive awareness campaigns through concerted efforts of all sections of the society. This was stated by Governor Mangubhai Patel at a health examination and blood donation camp organized by Sushila Devi Umrao Singh Patel Seva Sansthan in Khargone.

Governor Patel said that I always visit places where the poor are served. Regional MP Gajendra Singh Patel is doing a good job of public service by organizing health camps through the institute started by his mother. Youth are donating blood in the camp. Blood donation is a great service which saves life. Youth should come forward to donate blood in maximum numbers.

Governor Patel said that a target has been set in the country to eradicate TB by 2025. For this we can be Ni-kshay Mitras and extend cooperation. If there is a TB patient in the house, arrangements should be made for his/her isolation and regular intake of medicines for six months, can cure the TB patient completely.

Discussing sickle cell anemia disease, Governor Patel said that it is a genetic disease and is highly prevalent among the tribal community. Timely identification is must for prevention from the disease. He said that both young men and women of marriageable age should get their test done for sickle cell disease and if found positive they must not enter into matrimony with each other.

Children born to such couples also suffer from the genetic disorder. The government has set a target of eradicating sickle cell by the year 2047. The Governor advised the sickle cell patients not to eat too much oily food, instead they should include coarse grains in their diet at home. The Government of India has made a budget provision of Rs 15 thousand crore for “Millet”.

Governor Patel distributed differently abled certificates to sickle cell patients and nutritious food to TB patients. He distributed certificates to the youth who donated blood and encouraged them to continue doing the service.

Governor Patel released the calendar of Khargone district prepared by the District Archaeology, Tourism and Culture Council. It depicts the historical and tourist places of Khargone district.

MP Patel presented Governor Mangubhai Patel traditional jacket and a bow and arrow as a souvenir.

Chairman of Aurobindo Hospital Indore, Dr. Vinod Bhandari said that organization has made arrangements for sickle cell, thyroid, anemia as well as cancer examination in the camp. A campaign named Komal Sparsh has also been started by his organization for the identification of sickle cell anemia in children. Door-to-door cancer screening campaign is also being run by the institute.

Ratlam-Jhabua MP Guman Singh Damor, Dhar-Mhow MP Chhatar Singh Darbar, Khandwa MP Dnyaneshwar Patil, Betul-Harda MP Durgadas Uike, Khargone MLA Balkrishna Patidar, Barwah MLA Sachin Birla, Pansemal MLA Shyam ji Barde, Pandhana MLA Chhaya More, Collector Karmaveer Sharma, SP Dharamveer Singh and other public representatives and officials were present.
