After clashes broke out over a land dispute at Biroda village in Burhanpur district earlier this week, a police official said on Wednesday that the area is peaceful due to the presence of heavy police deployment.
The two communities had clashed over control of a religious site, which the Hindus claim is the grave of Navnath Baba.According to reports, trouble erupted after the minority community laid claim to the shrine, saying it was a Dargah.
Four people were wounded in the rioting, which was brought under control by a large police deployment in the area.The clashes left four people injured. A large police force was deployed to bring the situation under control.
Clashes first broke out at a meeting chaired by the Naib Tehsildar, who had been attempting to broker peace between the two sides.Reports from the area indicate that tensions peaked after Muslims claimed that a Dargah had recently been painted saffron.The four wounded, including a woman, are undergoing treatment at the district hospital. ASP Antar Singh Kanesh said that the meeting between the communities was meant to find an amicable solution, as both sides had urged the administration to intervene.
“Despite efforts to mediate, the disagreement escalated into a violent confrontation. Heavy police deployment remains in the area, and authorities are working to identify those responsible. Strict action will be taken against the offenders,” he said.
