Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath convened a high-level meeting with senior officials to review the state’s flood management preparations and safety measures.
He underscored the importance of effective coordination, swift action and better management to ensure the safety of people and property during floods.
The chief minister noted that 24 districts in the state are highly flood-prone, including Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Lakhimpur Kheri, Gorakhpur, Basti, Bahraich, Bijnor, Siddharthnagar, Ghazipur, Gonda, Ballia, Deoria, Sitapur, Balrampur, Ayodhya, Mau, Farrukhabad, Shravasti, Budaun, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Sant Kabir Nagar, Pilibhit and Barabanki.
He instructed officials to ensure all preparations are made in advance to mitigate the impact of floods in these areas.
To ensure effective preparedness, the chief minister directed the Jal Shakti minister and ministers of state to inspect flood protection projects in sensitive areas. He also instructed officials to maintain coordination with central agencies, issue daily flood bulletins, and ensure the timely completion of ongoing drainage and channelisation projects in Ambedkar Nagar, Balrampur, Barabanki, Sitapur, and Shravasti.
The chief minister emphasised the need for fresh food and quality relief materials in flood relief camps. He also instructed officials to establish a health team for relief camps, ensure the care of animals, and provide immediate compensation to farmers whose crops are damaged due to excessive rains.
To mitigate the risk of disease outbreaks during floods, the chief minister instructed the Medical and Health department to prepare health kits and distribute them to districts. These kits will include essential items such as chlorine tablets, ORS (oral rehydration salts), and an adequate supply of fever medications.
The chief minister’s directives aim to minimise flood risks and ensure the safety of people and property in Uttar Pradesh. He stressed the importance of better coordination among all agencies involved in flood management and relief operations. By taking proactive measures, the state government aims to reduce the impact of floods and provide timely assistance to those affected.
