The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organized the CII Jharkhand Green Conclave at the Centre for Excellence, focusing on the theme "Creating a Future-Ready Green Ecosystem." The event brought together eminent leaders and experts from various sectors to discuss emerging green technologies and their potential to foster sustainability. With a strong emphasis on competitiveness, inclusiveness, and environmental stewardship, the conclave aimed to chart a course for a greener, more resilient future for Jharkhand and beyond.
The session was inaugurated by Ranjot Singh, Chairman of CII Jharkhand State Council & Managing Director of Emdet Jamshedpur Private Limited, who highlighted the urgent need for collective action on sustainability. "Green and sustainability is a very serious subject. We all must get together. What to do can be found, and when to do it is now, but how to do it is the challenge we must overcome together. As a nation, we have to become Net Zero," said Singh, setting the tone for the discussions that followed.
Dr. Amit Ranjan Chakraborty, Convenor of the CII Jharkhand Sustainability, Environment Energy Panel & Chief Environment Officer at Tata Steel Ltd, emphasized the critical importance of awareness and sensitivity towards sustainability. "We are just on the brink of a huge metallurgical catastrophe if we do not act now. It is together that we can make a difference, and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) is the need of the hour," he stated, underscoring the interconnected pillars of sustainability.
The conclave featured insights from Ritu Raj Sinha, Vice Chairman of the CII Jharkhand State Council & Managing Director of Tata Steel UISL, who stressed the importance of a collective commitment to sustainability at both corporate and individual levels. "Sustainability must be at the core of every action undertaken by businesses and individuals alike. The smallest fraction also contributes to the bigger cost, and an industry perspective cannot be seen in isolation. There are towns around the industries, and there are individuals. Everyone is integrated – the industries, the towns, and the individuals," Sinha remarked, highlighting the holistic approach needed for a sustainable future.
N Muthusezhiyan, Deputy Executive Director of the CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre, urged businesses to view "green" not just as an action, but as a crucial compliance in today’s world. He said, "The first and foremost thing is the climate impact; improving efficiency and resource intensity is the need of the hour. Climate adaptation should be at the forefront of our efforts as we strive to create a sustainable future."
Rohit Goyal, Co-Convenor of the CII Jharkhand MSME Panel & Managing Director of IEMCO Industries Ltd, discussed the importance of integrating ESG practices in MSMEs to enhance their competitive edge globally. "The journey to net zero emissions is both ambitious and essential. The Green Conclave aspires to inspire industries to lead by example in creating a future-ready green ecosystem," Goyal noted.
