Chd awarded for successful anti-drug implementation

Chandigarh: UT of Chandigarh has been honoured for its effective implementation of the Joint Action Plan on ‘Prevention of drugs and substance abuse among children and illicit trafficking’. Minister of State, Union Ministry of Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, awarded UT Chandigarh during a felicitation ceremony organized by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) in New Delhi. The city was recognized as one of the top 30 districts nationwide for its efforts in combating drug abuse among children. UT Deputy Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh and Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights’s chairperson Shipra Bansal received the award. Stakeholders including the District Child Protection Unit, Health, Education, Social Welfare, Narcotics Bureau, and Police collaborated effectively to prevent drug abuse among children and curb illicit drug trafficking in areas around educational institutions.

 

Two-and-a-half-month water conservation drive completed in Chd

Chandigarh: In a concerted effort to conserve water and address its shortage during the summers, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh successfully completed a two-and-a-half-month water conservation drive from April 15 to June 30. MC official said that during the drive, the MCC team conducted a round-the-clock challaning exercise citywide to identify and address instances of water wastage. As a result, 2,267 notices were issued, besides levying 365 challans, and recording a total of 2,632 violations. Additionally, the MCC disconnected nine water connections to reinforce importance of responsible water usage. MCC commissioner Anindita Mitra on Sunday said that the drive was initiated with the aim of curbing water wastage and ensuring efficient water utilization across the city.

 

Bathinda to get 3 more solar power plants soon

Chandigarh: Taking yet another firm step towards decarbonizing the agricultural sector by adopting solar power energy, Punjab Government is all set to come up with three more Solar Power Plants of 12 MW (four MW each) in Bathinda district. The state’s New and Renewable Energy Sources Minister Aman Arora on Sunday said that the upcoming three 12MW Solar PV Power projects worth Rs 50 crores are expected to be commissioned by June 2025. Panchayat land has been taken on lease near the 66 KV Sub-stations of PSPCL at villages of Bhagi Vandar, Shergarh and Kothe Malluana in Bathinda district to set up these projects which will demonstrate the concept of solarisation of agriculture power and provide many benefits to the people in the State, besides supporting PSPCL to meet its power demands at a very low cost.

 

HP girl gets new lease of life

Mohali:  A 22-year-old girl from Palampur in HP got a new lease of life after a complex kidney transplant at Ivy Hospital, Mohali recently. Dr Raka Kaushal senior director nephrology said that the girl was bed ridden, very weak with recurrent infections, unable to eat and was not doing well on dialysis. She was a very high risk patient for kidney transplant & her survival chances were very blink. She underwent a successful kidney transplant and post-transplant she made remarkable recovery. She has gained weight and is now leading a normal life.

 

Relief Sculpture workshop organised in Model Jail

Chandigarh: Relief Sculpture workshop on Sunday started in the Model Jail, Chandigarh wherein the inmates of Jail provided training for making relief sculpture under the guidance of Rajender Kumar, Senior Sculptor of Tricity working in GMSSS-10, Chandigarh as a Fine Art Master. In a statement, the officials said that this workshop was being organized under the guidance of Raj Kumar Singh, Inspector General of Prisons, UT Chandigarh and Dr Palika Arora, Additional IG Prisons, UT Chandigarh. This workshop includes 2D and 3 D high relief sculpture with clay and cement. Six feet lord Buddha sculpture is being prepared with clay and mould preparation with Plaster of Paris. After this mould making process, the sculpture will be final in fibre glass and polyester resin, he added.  According to officials, the sculpture art workshop will help the inmates to create their articles in 2D and 3D low and high relief sculpture with their suitable material like clay, plaster of paris and polyester resin.  The inmates will learn the skills of 2D and 3D low and high relief sculpture and they will earn their livelihood after being released from the Jail which will also help them to settle in the society, they added.

 

PM Modi's 'Mann Ki Baat' Episode Shown Live in Chandigarh

Chandigarh: The city unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a live screening of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 111th episode of 'Mann Ki Baat' at the booth market in Maloya colony on Sunday. BJP President Jatinder Pal Malhotra, along with a large number of area residents and party leaders, listened to the Prime Minister's address with great enthusiasm. Malhotra praised the program, saying, "In just half an hour, 'Mann Ki Baat' updates us on all the happenings in the world. The PM's inspiring words are a source of motivation for all."

 

Centre approves 12 new nagar van, vatika projects for Punjab

Chandigarh: Union Government has sanctioned Rs 265.958 lakhs to Punjab Forest and Wildlife Preservation Department to set up 12 Nagar Van or Vatika projects. Sharing the information, the Minister in-charge Lal Chand Kataruchak said that during 2023-24, under the Nagar Van Yojana, the Department has been successful in getting a total of 12 Nagar Van or Vatika projects sanctioned from the Union Government which would entail a cost of Rs 265.958 lakhs. Under the State Authority CAMPA scheme, 100 toilets have been constructed in as many nurseries at the cost of Rs three crore for ensuring hygienic conditions for the employees especially the females. During 2024-25, many more are in the offing.

 

Haryana’s 3 State Hospitals awarded

Chandigarh: Haryana Health Minister Dr Kamal Gupta said that three hospitals from the state were awarded in the ‘Ayushman Bharat Gunvatt Swasthya’ program held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on June 28. Representing Haryana, the Director General of Health Services, Dr. Randeep Singh Poonia, Director of Health Services, Dr. Kuldeep Singh, and the Civil Surgeon of the respective districts received the awards. He congratulated the Haryana Health Department team for this achievement. The Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department Sudhir Rajpal, congratulated the team and stated that three hospitals from the state, namely Civil Hospital, Sector 10, Gurugram, Sub-District Hospital Hodal, District Palwal, and Community Health Centre Gannaur, District Sonipat, were awarded by the Government of India. These health institutions were recognized for their achievement in providing quality patient care and their excellent performance in meeting the quality indicators as per the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS).

 

UT BJP chief urges Sports Minister to introduce cable skiing in Sukhna Lake

Chandigarh: Chandigarh BJP president Jatinder Pal Malhotra met with Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and proposed the introduction of cable skiing in Sukhna Lake to promote sports and tourism in the city. Malhotra, who welcomed the minister at the Chandigarh international Airport and later met with him in Panchkula, emphasized the potential of Sukhna Lake as an ideal location for cable skiing. He highlighted the existing infrastructure and the possibility of hosting Asian games in the future, attracting delegates from 190 countries and boosting the local economy.

 

Harsimrat pays obeisance at Golden Temple

Amritsar: SAD MP and former Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Sunday paid obeisance at the revered Golden Temple and expressed gratitude for victory in the Bathinda constituency for a fourth consecutive time in the Lok Sabha elections 2024. After offering prayers at the Harmandir Sahib, she said: “I paid obeisance and thanked God for helping me to win from Bathinda Lok Sabha constituency for the fourth time. I also thank the public and workers who contributed to the victory. I took oath in the parliament for the fourth time.”

 

Last Respects Paid to Minister’s father-in-law

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Maan, along with other prominent personalities, paid his last respects to Rakesh Yadav, father-in-law of Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains and father of IPS officer Jyoti Yadav at Sector-11 Gurdwara Sahib. Rakesh Yadav passed away on June 17 in Gurugram after a brief illness. The Chief Minister praised Yadav's dedication to social service and his commitment to providing quality education to his children. Mann emphasized the importance of parents in our lives and encouraged everyone to show respect and gratitude towards them. He also shared his grief with the family on behalf of Delhi Chief Minister and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal.
