Municipal Corporation and district administration reached and razed illegal encroachment built by people on government land in Shankar Nagar area on Saturday morning, complaints of encroachment reached the district administration and the Municipal Corporation.
In the presence of the police, the officers of the corporation and administration got the bamboo sticks removed. During this period there was an altercation between the officers and the people.
There is Oriya colony in Shankar Nagar located in Ward-76, where government land of the Municipal Corporation area, was encroached upon. Action was taken after receiving information that it was captured by using bamboo sticks on Saturday. Encroachment in-charge Nasir Khan said that he had reached the spot on the instructions of Additional Commissioner Pawan Singh. The land was being encroached upon here. People were advised not to do this.
However, some women also protested. Due to this, strictness was taken. Tehsildar Dilip Kumar Chaurasia, Naib Tehsildar Ramji Tiwari, Chhola TI and policemen were also present.
Encroachment in-charge Khan said that bamboo poles had been installed for the slums. This was done by 25 to 30 women of Nawab Colony area. Rachana Dhingra of Bhopal Group for Information and Action, an organization of gas victims, also reached the spot.
Dhingra of the Gas Victims Organization said that the houses of the families living behind the Union Carbide factory were demolished 15 months ago. They have not been displaced anywhere till date. Now the Railways is also demolishing their houses. It was these people who had come to build their houses on government land and were harassed.
