BJP spent crores to tarnish Hemant Soren's image: JMM

Saturday, 09 November 2024 | PNS | Ranchi

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) General Secretary cum spokesperson Vinod Kumar Pandey has issued a statement saying that BJP spent crores of rupees to tarnish Hemant Soren's image and spread hatred.

Pandey said that if we look at the speeches of BJP leaders from top to bottom, they are full of communal poison to break the society. "Despite the truth of hate speech of BJP leaders among the people on public platform and the same disgusting acts on social media coming to light, no action has been taken by the Election Commission, which is a matter of serious concern," he added.

The party General Secretary has made this claim citing a report jointly prepared by Dalit Solidarity Forum, Hindus for Human Rights, India Civil Watch International, Indian American Muslim Council and Tech Justice Law Project. He said that BJP spent crores of rupees to tarnish the image of the tribal Chief Minister and spread hatred.

"The BJP has used shadow accounts to spread lies and communalism through social media ahead of the Jharkhand elections. Communal and divisive content against the Hemant Soren government was disseminated on a war footing through shadow accounts. Posts insulting the tribal chief minister are being put up," Pandey said.

The party General Secretary said the BJP spent more than Rs 2.25 crore on advertisements on the Meta platform in three months. The report mentioned that the Election Commission is inactive in this matter, while it has the responsibility to enforce electoral rules, he said.

Pandey, citing the report, said the BJP spent more than Rs 2.25 crore on political advertisements on the Meta platform in three months and set up a complex network of shadow advertisements.

The report, said to be prepared by several civil rights organisations, was jointly prepared by Dalit Solidarity Forum, Hindus for Human Rights, India Civil Watch International, Indian American Muslim Council and Tech Justice Law Project. The report also discusses a coordinated campaign against Chief Minister Hemant Soren and targeting his tribal identity. The JMM has appealed to the Election Commission to take action to stop this alleged conspiracy of the BJP.

The report documents a coordinated campaign targeting Hemant Soren's tribal identity and his stand on religious freedom. After Soren's arrest on allegedly politically motivated corruption charges, the shadow network intensified its attacks. During Diwali, advertisements with inhuman images of Hemant Soren appeared on several pages, reflecting a systematic attempt to undermine tribal leadership.

The report revealed several examples of communally compiled material. Shadow pages like Badlega Jharkhand, despite having only 28,800 Instagram followers, spent Rs 1.4 lakh to reach over 1 crore people in a month. The content repeatedly portrayed Muslim men in a negative light, promoted conspiracy theories like love jihad, and spread false stories about Bangladeshi infiltrators in Jharkhand’s Santhal Paragana region.
