BJP condemns Atishi for writing to Haryana CM Saini

Monday, 10 June 2024 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva strongly condemned Senior AAP Leader and Delhi's Water Minister Atishi for writing to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday, stating that it is ‘based on incomplete data about the water being received from Haryana’.

Sachdeva stated that the Water Minister has been falsely blaming Haryana for Delhi's water crisis for several days, but on Sunday she has crossed all limits by writing a letter based on incomplete data. While making public the Delhi Jal Board's data from June 1 to June 8, Sachdeva stated, “Delhi receives water from Haryana through Carrier Lined Channel (CLC) and the Delhi Sub Branch (DSB), and if there is a shortage from these two sources, the Delhi Jal Board, with the consent of the Haryana government, also draws water directly from the Yamuna River.”

Accusing Atishi of ‘cleverly concealed the data of water drawn directly from the Yamuna River by the Delhi Jal Board to show a shortage’, Sachdeva pointed that on June 1, Delhi was supposed to receive 547 MGD of water from Haryana but actually received 607 MGD.

On June 2, Delhi was supposed to receive 547 MGD of water from Haryana but actually received 607 MGD again, he said.

“On June 3, Delhi was supposed to receive 547 MGD of water from Haryana but actually received 613 MGD. On June 4, Delhi was supposed to receive 547 MGD of water from Haryana but actually received 613 MGD. On June 5, Delhi was supposed to receive 547 MGD of water from Haryana but actually received 613 MGD again. On June 6, Delhi was supposed to receive 547 MGD of water from Haryana but actually received 613 MGD for the third day. On June 7, Delhi was supposed to receive 547 MGD of water from Haryana but actually received 623 MGD. On June 8, Delhi was supposed to receive 547 MGD of water from Haryana but actually received 622 MGD, “ Sachdeva alleged.

Further he stated, “The Delhi Jal Board's own data makes it clear that Haryana is consistently supplying the full amount of water to Delhi. If the Delhi government feels that less water is being received, they should first prove wrong the daily data issued by Delhi Jal Board.”

Earlier in the day, Atishi requested Saini to ensure 1,050 cusecs water is released from the Munak Canal for the national capital, otherwise "Delhi will have a major crisis in next one to two days". In her letter, she said seven Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) in Delhi are dependent on supply from Yamuna and "due to the deficit of raw water, our water treatment plants are unable to run at their optimum capacity."
