BJP calls Minister’s hunger strike drama, shameful

Monday, 24 June 2024 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

As hunger fast by Delhi Water Minister Atishi enters third day, the Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva on Sunday called it a ‘drama’ and said that it is very shameful that the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal led AAP government is busy in doing air-conditioning satyagraha instead of taking measures to stop the increasing deaths being reported amid the city reeling with heatwave.

Attacking senior AAP leaders, the Delhi BJP President said, “The people of Delhi, suffering from heatwave and water crisis, are shocked to see Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj and Water Minister Atishi making cheap political statements.”

Sachdeva claimed that Atishi only sits on the satyagraha to make an appearance for the media. “This will be the first Satyagraha movement in Indian history in which the Satyagrahi comes in front of the media only to get photographed and then disappears. It is clearly visible in some videos found there that in the service of Atishi, BSES has installed a special metre on the wall of someone else’s house and four ACs of four tons each are running there,” he said.

He said that it is the duty of the Water Minister to try to overcome the water shortage in Delhi at this time by getting the leakage fixed.

“But she is trying to run away from it. Whether it is Saurabh Bhardwaj, Sanjay Singh or Atishi, everyone is accusing the Haryana government of not providing water, whereas the Haryana government and its officials have proved with many evidences that they are providing more water to Delhi than the fixed quota,” he alleged.

Accusing the AAP government of covering up not just the water crisis in Delhi but also efforts are being made to cover up the deaths due to heatwave.

“The Kejriwal government, which talks big about the health model, should tell where the health services are and why heatwave related illnesses are not being treated in their mohalla clinics,” Sachdeva said, demanding that the Delhi government should immediately set up a heatwave treatment centre.

Launching an attack on the ruling government, he said, “There is no drinking water in Delhi, there is no way to avoid heatwave and there are no health facilities, the ministers of Delhi are only busy in jail, bail and satyagraha.
