BGH eases height parameter for contract workers' medical check-up

Sunday, 09 June 2024 | PNS | BOKARO

Bokaro Steel Limited (BSL) is committed to the health and well-being of its employees and contract workers. In line with this commitment, BSL has initiated health check-ups for contract workers. If any health issues are detected during these check-ups, appropriate treatment recommendations are made, ultimately benefiting the workers.

The medical check-ups will include basic parameters such as blood tests, blood pressure, ECG, height, weight, and BMI. In a significant move, BSL management has decided to ease the height parameter by 5 centimeters for the medical examination of all contract workers. This adjustment aims to benefit a larger number of contract workers by making it easier for them to meet the height requirements.

There is a deep connection between safety and health, and only healthy workers can contribute to creating a safe work environment. Minor issues like near or farsightedness, which can be corrected with glasses, will not disqualify workers. These workers can get the appropriate corrective glasses and have their eyes rechecked at BGH a week later. After passing the eye test, they can proceed with safety training and obtain their gate passes.

BGH will conduct medical check-ups for 50 contract workers each working day. Workers who have booked a slot for their medical check-up will receive an email notification at least one day in advance, sent to their engineer in charge and contractor via their registered BSL email ID. Contract workers are required to report to BGH on the scheduled date by 7:30 AM on an empty stomach. Those deemed fit based on their medical reports will proceed with two days of safety training starting the next day. The medical check-up reports will be emailed to the engineer in charge and contractor by 7 PM on the same day.
