Exploring possibilities of combining culture with couture, noted Bagh print designer Moinuddin Khatri met Union Minister for Textiles, Giriraj Singh, in New Delhi on Saturday.<
Khatri, the only fashion designer and master craftsman of Bagh print and an NIFT graduate, met Singh at a special program organized in the national capital.
In a discussion over the fashion aspect of Bagh print craft, Khatri informed Singh about possibities of facilitating the convergence and amalgamation of the craft of Bagh print with modern, and sustainable, fashion. During the meeting, Khatri underlined the importance of bringing innovation to products for the development of Bagh print craft.
Students of National Institute of Fashion Technology, Delhi (NiFT), who are working on a documentary and research project on Khatri, presented the ideas of the latest trends of fashion communication to the Minister.
The Minister congratulated Khatri for his academic achievements, and appreciated his commitment for innovations and improvement of the craft.
Khatri, a traditional craftsman, picked up the nuances of textile printing under the tutelage of his father, Mubarik Khatri, at a young age.
He is currently working on creating a synthesis between the traditional art and high fashion.He has worked with several well known names in the fashion industry and has a keen interest in updating the age-old art of fabric printing with the use of technology. He has also strived to find new markets for the craft.
A winner of several national and international awards, Khatri is exhibiting his works at 'Chhaap' at the Dilli Haat.
