Tuesday, 12 November 2024 | Staff Reporter | BHOPAL

There seems to be no let up in controversies at Barkatullah University as unruly scenes continued to rock the campus over what the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Monday described as anti-religion stance of the hostel warden.

The current controversy erupted after the warden stopped students from attending a recitation of  Sunderkand Katha. The hostel orders come close on the heels of a notice ordering the stoppage of Durga Puja due to non payment of hostel fees by the students.

The girls living in the hostel allege that Warden Anita Tilwani stopped them from reciting Sunderkand and going to the temple. Not only this, the warden also made the girls write an apology. According to the girls, the warden said that if they want to go to the temple, they will have to first take permission from the university administration.

The warden's behaviour has triggered protests by the ABVP who chanted the Ramdhun in front of Satya Bhavan at the university.Students said that a few days ago, Sunderkand Paath was organized at a temple in the university campus, in which students participated.

The girls living in the hostel had earlier taken permission from the Registrar to participate in the program till 8:00 PM as the program ended early, the girls returned to the hostel by 7:40 PM.At night, Chief Warden Anita Tilwani gathered all the girls and threatened them and said, "I will not do as per the instructions of the Registrar and Vice Chancellor, if they are so insistent then they should manage the hostel themselves."

The warden also threatened to spoil the results of the girls. The Chief Warden also said that from now on, girls will have to take permission in writing to go to the temple, alleged the girls.

According to the girls, the warden had said, "I will not even listen to the Registrar. Now you guys show your power. My power is much more than all of you, and the Vice Chancellor and Registrar cannot do anything to me.

With one phone call, I can get all the things of the university changed." The warden has issued an order that before going to the temple or the bhandara, the boarders will have to seek permission from the university administration, the girls claimed.Reacting to the developments, ABVP protested against the university administration.

Parishad activists gathered at the main gate of the university and chanted Ramdhun in front of Satya Bhavan and appealed to the administration to act wisely.

ABVP President Diwakar Shukla said that the move preventing girl students from going to the temple and participating in religious programs is condemnable. He said that protests will continue.

Many Hindu organizations have exoressed solidarity with the students.ABVP Bhopal Metropolitan Minister Shivam Jat said, "Action should be taken as soon as possible against such people with a corrupt mindset, who try to ban religious sentiments of the students."
