3 hynae cubs sighted in PTR

Saturday, 22 June 2024 | PNS | DALTONGANJ

Three cubs of hynae have been eye-sighted in Mahuadanr under the ambit of the tiger reserve Palamu. The cubs are healthy and fit.

Confirming this the deputy director south division of the PTR Kunar Ashish said the hynae cubs were sighted near the den of the wolf. They appear to be two weeks old in age.

From a distance the hynae cubs resemble wolves but a closer scrutiny found them the cubs of hynae.

Kumar Ashish said camera traps have been installed there to monitor the movement and activity of the mother hynae and cubs.

It's quite rare to eyesight cubs of hynae. It's only the tiger's cubs that attract nation wide attention.

However in the scheme of things in wildlife management lesser carnivores like hynae etc matters most.

There are 51 plus leopards in the tiger reserve Palamu and double of it are the Hynaes.

There has never been any fight between the hynae and leopard in the tiger reserve Palamu. Both live separately and in peace.
