Three people died, and five others were injured after being electrocuted when the procession they were a part of came in contact with an overhead live wire in the Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh.
The tragic accident occurred when the victims were on their way to immerse an idol of Goddess Kali in the Dhuma area of Lakhnadon in the district.
The electric current spread through the entire trolley, which was carrying the idol to the immersion site.
The state government has announced an ex gratia relief of Rs 200,000 to the kin of each deceased.
The injured have been given a relief of Rs 10,000 each. The deceased have been identified as Nilesh Kushwaha, Ravi Vishwakarma, and Mukesh Yadav, all residents of Dhuma.
The injured are Nikhil Shivhare, Ajju Vishwakarma, Monu Rajak, Sagar Thakur, and Balram Yadav. Two of them have been referred to Jabalpur, while the others are being treated at the Lakhnadon Civil Hospital.
