An 18-year-old man was stabbed to death in a robbery bid in the Uttam Nagar area of Dwarka.
According to the police on Sunday, the victim has been identified as Monu, a native of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, who had come to Delhi to work during a Janmashtami Mela and he was working as a labour at a balloon shop near metro pillar no. 681, Uttam Nagar in the area of Bindapur police station.
DCP Dwarka Ankit Singh said that a call was received at Uttam Nagar police station at 11.15 pm on Saturday regarding a scuffle and the stabbing of a man. At the time of the alleged incident, Monu and his friend Monu Kumar were on their way to have dinner when they were stopped by four to five men near a metro pillar.
“It further transpired that the injured along with Monu was going to eat food and when they neared Pillar No. 656, Uttam Nagar, Delhi, four to five boys came and asked for money, which they denied. Suddenly, one boy came and stabbed with a knife on the upper back of Monu,” Singh added.
Monu was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital before being shifted to Safdarjung Hospital. He died during treatment.
“Case of robbery under section 311 (Robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) and 3(5) (When a criminal act is done by several persons in furtherance of the common intention of all, each of such persons is liable for that act in the same manner as if it were done by him alone) of BNS was registered and was being investigated. It further transpired that the injured was declared dead, accordingly Section of Murder was added. CCTVs of the area are being examined & efforts to trace the alleged are on,” the DCP stated.
