The Fourth MHM (Menstrual Hygiene Management) India Summit was organized at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The summit witnessed the recognition of Tarun Kumar, founder of Nishchay Foundation and popularly known as the Padman of Jharkhand, as the MHM Goodwill Ambassador for his outstanding contributions to menstrual hygiene management and the welfare of rural children in Jharkhand.
The honor was bestowed by Padma Shri S. Damodaran, founder of Gramalaya, along with other distinguished guests. Tarun Kumar was commended for his remarkable efforts in improving menstrual hygiene and advancing education, health, and gender equality in Jharkhand’s remote villages.
For over 14 years, Tarun Kumar has been working tirelessly in Jharkhand’s rural communities. Through numerous Nishchay Foundation initiatives, he has addressed critical issues such as education, health, menstrual hygiene, gender equality, environmental awareness, sports, and literacy. Despite the absence of regular financial support, Kumar has consistently run impactful campaigns, earning him recognition as a symbol of hope for rural children’s welfare.
The MHM Summit was organized by Gramalaya, a resource center designated by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, in collaboration with Dettol Banega Swasth India and Bank of America. The event provided a platform for over 200 representatives and speakers from across the country to discuss issues surrounding menstrual hygiene and its role in fostering better health outcomes.
Upon returning to Jamshedpur on Friday, Tarun Kumar expressed gratitude for the national recognition of his initiatives. “The acknowledgment of Nishchay Foundation's work at such a prestigious platform strengthens our resolve to continue striving for the betterment of rural children. It’s the collective selfless efforts of countless children, teachers, young allies, and volunteers that make this possible,” Kumar said.
