Friday night’s gruesome murder of K Armstrong the Tamil Nadu president of BSP,  is a fall out of previous enmity, according to Chennai Police investigating the case.

The 52-year old politician was hacked to death by an eight member gang while the former was talking to his associates in front of a building which he was constructing at a Chennai suburb.

The murder has sent shock waves across the State whoch has seen a spurt in political murders over the last three years of the DMK rule. Chief Minister M K Stalin said in a social media post that he was shocked and anguished over the murder of Armstrong, a former councilor of Chennai Municipal Corporation. He said eight persons were held by the police in an overnight operation.

Though the details about the culprits are yet to be officially announced, the arrested persons include the brother of a slain history sheeter which suggests that the murder has something to do with previous enmity. Supporters of the slain leader claimed his killing was “planned” and demanded a CBI probe into the gruesome murder.

Asra Garg, the Punjab born additional commissioner of police who is leading the probe said that eight suspects have been secured in connection with the murder of Armstrong and 10 teams have been formed to crack the case. , Asra Garg, Additional Commissioner (North) told reporters. There are some “two to three suspicious motives” but the exact one would come to light only after the interrogation of the suspects, he added.

K Annamalai, Tamil Nadu president of the BJP said that violence and brutality have become normal in the three years of DMK rule and asked Stalin to ponder over if he has the moral right to continue in the post, vis-a-vis the law and order situation.

AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswamy expressed concern over the killing of a “national party's state chief” and alleged there was no fear of police, government and law that had emboldened individuals to resort to such crimes and slammed the chief minister.

Meanwhile , BSP supremo Mayawati is flying down to Chennai on Sunday to console the bereaved family of the slain leader and attend his funeral. In a message to the party cadres in Tamil Nadu, Mayawati had called for restraint and peace.
