The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Wednesday approved several key proposals aimed at improving urban infrastructure and enhancing services for citizens including the establishment of the Urban Art & Culture Forum and the introduction of an Intelligent Integrated Parking System during the Council Meeting.
The Council, presided over by New Delhi BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj, with NDMC Chairperson Keshav Chandra and Vice-Chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal, approved the formation of the Urban Art & Culture Forum. This body will advise on promoting culture, performing arts, and visual arts across the NDMC area, enhancing public spaces with art installations, and fostering community participation.“The initiative aligns with Prime Minister Modi’s emphasis on preserving India’s cultural heritage, combining Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi —development with legacy,” Chahal said.
In tandem, the Council also approved the launch of an Intelligent Integrated Parking System, designed to streamline parking management across 152 locations in New Delhi. This initiative supports Prime Minister Modi’s Smart India vision by reducing urban congestion and improving mobility through high-tech solutions.
“The Council accorded the approval for inviting RFP for selection of Agency to Design, Develop, Supply, Implement, Operate and Maintain “Intelligent Integrated Parking System” including revision of parking charges in NDMC area. The RFP will be issued for Single clusters having 152 parking sites/ locations for a term of 10 years including 3 months of implementation period,” a statement by the council said.
It added that the Agency shall run the parking lots in market areas at least from 8:00 hours to 24:00 hours, for non-market areas from 8:00 hours to 23:00 hours. “NDMC reserves the right to ask the Agency to run any parking lots beyond 23:00 hours in non-market areas and beyond 24:00 hours in market areas as per requirement,” it said.
Chahal also said that Kejriwal's seat remains vacant in these meetings, and to date, he has not taken an oath as a member of the council. “This, he said, reflects poorly on the accountability of the Delhi government,” he said.
Other key decisions included the hiring of 28 Tata Nexon electric vehicles for official use, upgrades to public toilets and garbage stations, procurement of water tankers to bolster the water supply system, and the approval of recruitment rules for healthcare visitors.
