The National Commission for Women on Sunday asserted that both family matters and political issues triggered the violence against a woman BJP leader from Cooch Behar who was stripped and beaten by alleged Trinamool Congress goons.
"It seems that the reason behind the matter is partly political and partly family related issues," said NCW member Delina Khondup, adding however that she would concentrate not on those issues during her inquiry but only on how the victim could get justice.
"Though its seems to be a partly political and partly family related matter we will not take any political angle … we will only see that the victim gets justice because she is a woman and she is a victim of such torture which must be accounted for," she said.
NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma too demanded justice for the victim saying "the accused must be arrested promptly and the victim provided free medical treatment. A fair, time-bound investigation is required, with a detailed action taken report to be submitted to the Commission within three days." The NCW statements came on a day when the Bengal Police after a fair lapse of five days' time recorded the statement of the victim on Sunday. The police action came after the NCW earlier directing the Bengal Police to register an FIR and start an investigation into the case.
