Modi accuses Congress of Muslim appeasement

Monday, 13 May 2024 | Saugar Sengupta | Barrackpore/Sankrail

Once again Prime Minister Narendra Modi has branded the Congress with Muslim appeasement saying the tri-colour party has promised to introduce separate reservation policy for the Muslims at the cost of SCs, STs and other backward castes.

Addressing massive election rallies at Barrackpore in North 24 Parganas and Sankrail in Howrah the Prime Minister on Sunday said that the “Congress is trying to take away the reservation SCs,STs and OBCs and give it to the Muslims … but as long as Modi is there no such reservation will be allowed... no one can take away the reservations from the SCs or STs.”

Introducing a new coinage “Vote Jihad” for the Congress, Left and Trinamool Congress the Prime Minister said that these parties stood for corruption, anarchy and vote jihad which was the other name of appeasement politics.

“The TMC, Congress and the Left pursue the politics of appeasement,” so much so that “the Hindus have been rendered into second class citizens in Bengal,” the Prime Minister said referring to a statement by TMC MLA Humayun Kabir who had earlier threatened to throw the BJP people in Bhagirathi River.

Attacking the constituents of INDIA alliance in Bengal he said, “the TMC, Congress and the Left have put Bengal into an identity crisis he said, “the TMC is calling the rest of Indians whocome to Bengal as outsiders whereas they give shelter to the infiltrators to the effect that in some districts the infiltrators have become majority … this emboldens them to threaten the Hindus to throw them in the Bhagirathi River.” Appeasement politics is a part of Congress and TMC’spolicy of “vote jihad,” he said. The Prime Minister held addressed four rallies at Barrackpore, Sankrail, Chinsurah and Arambagh in Bengal. Earlier on May 3, Modi addressed rallies at Krishnagar, Purba Bardhaman and Bolpur Lok Sabha constituencies. Saying that Bengal was an important state for the BJP the Prime Minister said the Congress, Left and such other parties ruled Eastern India for so many years but gave only poverty despite the states being capable, rich in capability mineral resources and agriculturally fertile.  Attacking the TMC he said whereas the Congress stood for corruption and dynasticism, the Left gave anarchy the TMC combined the attributes of both the parties.

“The TMC has given Tolabaji (extortion) in Bengal where no business is possible without giving commission … corruption is a full time business in Bengal … TMC leadership means lust and anarchy,” the Prime Minister said.

Attacking the TMC Government for playing with the women’s honour at Sandeshkhali he said, “the incident at Sandeshkhali has been watched by the entire country and shamed everyone,” referring to some new video footages where a BJP leader was saying that the entire game was hatched by t he BJP in lieu of money the PM said “today they have started a new

game,” but the people of Bengal know the truth,” adding how the Mamata Banerjee Government was trying to protect the persons accused of sexual attacks on women and grabbing their lands.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who too was addressing election rallies elsewhere however hit back immediately saying the Prime Minister had a new Sandesh (message) from Sandeshkhali and that was “Modi is going … no one can save him from coming back to power.”  Referring to the twin incidents of Sandeshkhali where women were reportedly made victims of sexual assault and allegations of molestation leveled on Governor CV Ananda Bose by a contractual employee at Raj Bhavan in Kolkata, Banerjee said, “Modi ji is still telling lies about Sandeshkhali incident about which the truth is out
