Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee may move the Supreme Court after getting an adverse order in Calcutta High Court which earlier restrained her from making any defamatory statements against State Governor CV Ananda Bose.

“The High Court has given and order but my client has every right to go to the Supreme Court,” Banerjee’s advocate Sanjay Basu said adding the Court had not given any finding on whether some statements made by the CM earlier were defamatory in nature.

In an unprecedented step the Governor had earlier filed a libel suit against the Chief Minister for making defamatory remarks against him. Banerjee had earlier told a meeting that she had been told by some women MLAs that they were afraid of going to the Raj Bhavan. Apparently Banerjee’s remarks were linked to a complain raised by a casual staff at the Governor’s House.

The case was heard on Tuesday when the HCrestrained the Chief Minister from making defamatory remarks against the Governor after his counsels pleaded that If at this stage, an interim order is not granted it would give a free hand to defendants.

to continue making defamatory statements against the plaintiff and continue to tarnish the reputation of the plaintiff.

The Chief Minister stood by her statement in the High Court while her counsel submitted that she merely echoed the apprehensions of women over certain alleged activities in Raj Bhavan.
