LeT commander killed, two arrested in J and K

A joint team of security forces eliminated a self-styled commander of Lashkar-e-Tayyeba, (LeT)  involved in civilian killings at Gagangir, Ganderbal in the ongoing operation in the upper reaches of the Dachigam forest area in Srinagar on Tuesday while a bullet-ridden dead body of a former Village Defence Guard was recovered far away from his home near Chapper, Latti area of Udhampur.

Meanwhile, Udhampur police have also detained two female terror associates under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) as they were posing a significant threat to the safety and security of the state.

In Jammu, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired another high-level security review meeting with the Director General of Police and other senior police officers at Raj Bhawan.

This is the third security review meeting after the formation of the newly elected government in Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting took place close on the heels of the culmination of the All India Conference of Directors Generals and Inspectors Generals of Police (DGPs-IGPs), at Bhubaneswar. The conference was chaired by the Prime Minister and Home Minister and attended by NSA, Union Home Secretary and several others.

Omar Abdullah, who returned from Umrah, remained present in his office in the civil secretariat, Jammu. While LG was holding a security review meeting Omar took stock of the working of the civil aviation department along with his political advisor and senior bureaucrats. 

Confirming the elimination of one terrorist Srinagar-based Chinar Corps posted on X, "One terrorist has been neutralised by the security forces in the ongoing Operation at upper reaches of Dachigam Forest, Srinagar. 

Jammu and Kashmir police have identified the slain terrorist as Junaid Ahmed Bhat belonging to the pro-Pakistan Lashkar-e-Tayyeba outfit. According to police, the said terrorist was involved in civilian killings at Gagangir, Ganderbal, and several other terror attacks.  Search Operation is in progress".

Earlier, a joint operation was launched by the Indian army and the Jammu and Kashmir police late Monday evening based on specific information about the presence of terrorists in the area. Security was also tightened in and around Srinagar due to ongoing anti-terrorist operations in the Harwan area.

In Udhampur, while confirming the detention of two female OGW's police also revealed their identities.

The female OGW's have been identified as Maryama Begum W/O Mohd. Shafeeq R/O Loudhara, Basantgarh and Arshad Begum W/O Late Jamal Din R/O Rai Chak, Basantgarh.

According to a police spokesman these terror associates were found to be involved in providing logistics support to terrorist groups and working as guide/facilitators for terrorist organisations.

Their continuous actions posed a serious risk to public safety and tranquility.

To prevent further criminal activities detrimental to the security of the state and keeping in view their activities both were ordered to be detained under PSA.
