The State Committee of the CPI(M) which met on Monday to discuss the ramifications caused by the meeting between LDF Convener EP Jayarajan and the BJP’s Prakash Jawadekar gave a clean chit to the former and said that there was nothing unusual in it.
Briefing the media after the State Committee meeting, M V Govindan, Kerala secretary of the CPI(M) said that Jayarajan explained the situation that led to the meeting and clarified all issues raised in the meeting.
“It has been found that the hype about this meeting was created by a certain section of the media which is not friendly with the CPI(M) and they had some intention to put the party in a dilemma. Based on the explanation given by Jayarajan, we have asked him to take legal action against those media which spread falsehoods about the meeting,” said Govindan.
The party secretary also said that there was nothing unusual in two leaders belonging to different political parties and pursuing different ideologies meeting each other. “Such meetings are not uncommon so long as the agenda is confined to personal relayions,” said Govindan.
He also alleged that the opposition led by the Congress wanted to divert the attention from real issues and they blew the news about the Jayarajan-Jawadekar meeting out of proportion. “We have also asked Jayarajan not to have any more contacts with “Dallal” T G Nandakumar, who reportedly played a major role in facilitating the meeting,” said Govindan.
Dallal Nandakumar, the Delhi based Keralite is credited with facilitating and finalizing underhand dealings and contracts between people in high places and favor seekers for a price.
He has been described as a dubious character and persons dealing with him are looked down by civil society.
Political observers like A Jayasankar are of the view that there are string reasons behind the State Committee opting out of taking any action against Jayarajan. “This is a meeting which was held to save certain leaders in the CPI(M) facing probe by central agencies like ED and CBI. If any action is taken against Jayarajan at this juncture, chances are that he would spill more beans and that will put the VVIPs in the party in an embarrassing situation. This is the same CPI(M) which campaigned in Kollam alleging that the RSP member N K Premachandran is shifting his loyalty to the BJP following the lunch he shared with Prime Minister Modi at the Parliament House canteen,” said Jayashankar.
Jayasankar also said that if the CPI(M) is serious about taking action against Jayarajan for meeting Jawadekar, the only body capable of doing the same is the polit bureau of the party because Jayarajan is a member of the high power central committee, a body of intellectuals and intelligentsia like Sitaram Yechury, Prakash and Brinda Karats. Govindan charged the BJP’s national spokesperson Sanju Verma for spreading “blatant lies” about Kerala.
“This lady was heard alleging in a media that the CPI(M) was distributing 98 pr cent of the income generated by temples in Kerala to the Muslim community. The truth is that temples in the State survive because of the generous fund released by the Government,” said Govindan.
