Infant thrown to death in Kochi within three hours of birth

For the people of Kochi, Saturday May 3, 2024 will remain as an unforgettable and dreadful day for decades to come. The city woke up to the news that an infant, born hardly three hours ago was thrown out of a high rise residential apartment in the uptown Panampilli Nagar where the whose who of the metro has set up their residences.

The incident occurred at 07.30 and the police on being alerted by persons who saw a plastic bag carrying the body of the child crashing down and hotting the ring road. The Kochi City Police team rushed to the site was taken aback when they saw the content of the bag, the body of a new born child which has been broken and bruised.

On inspecting all the 21 apartments, the police team came across a 21-year old woman who they confirmed as the one who gave birth to the child. She confided to the police that she was a rake victim and it was to escape from the ignominy of being known as an unwed mother that she threw down the child. The city police commissioner who led the probe asked the media not to publish the name of the woman as she was a rape victim.

Police are investigating the role of others in this gruesome act. The parents of the woman were interrogated by the investigators and by evening, it was disclosed that the cops are trying to find out the details of a SUV which was seen speeding away from the apartment immediately after the incident.

Kochi has already emerged as the crime capital of south India as not a single day passes without reports of murder, gang warfare, drug pushing and narcotics related crimes.
