The wife of the deputy chief medical officer of Siddharth Nagar committed suicide by shooting herself with a licensed revolver in the residence in Sant Kabir Nagar on Thursday morning.
Reports said that Dr Abdul Salam, a resident of Tetriya locality of Ambedkar Nagar, had built a hospital (without any name) on Meetmandi Road in Kotwali Khalilabad area of Sant Kabir Nagar district. He was presently posted as deputy chief medical officer in Siddharthnagar. His wife was living a portion above the nursing home in Sant Kabir Nagar. His two sons are pursuing MBBS from a private medical college in Lucknow. His wife also mostly lived in Lucknow with her sons.
Two days ago, Dr Abdul Salam had come to Khalilabad residence with his wife, 47-year-old Gudiya. They both stayed in Sant Kabir Nagar. On Thursday morning, at around 8 o'clock, Gudiya allegedly committed suicide by shooting herself with the licensed revolver of the doctor.
On getting information about the incident, Circle Officer Deepanshi Rathore and Kotwali Khalilabad in-charge Sarvesh Rai reached the spot and carried out investigation.
Superintendent of Police Satyajit Gupta said preliminary investigation indicated it to be a case of suicide. The body was sent for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, two youths drowned while taking a bath in the Gomti river in Kudwar area of Sultanpur district, police said on Thursday.
Rishabh Kumar Tiwari and Anoop Kumar Pandey, both aged 23, were taking a bath in the river when they slipped into the deep water and drowned on Wednesday, police said.
Both were taken to a hospital after the locals pulled them out of the water but the doctors pronounced them dead.
The bodies were sent for autopsy.
