Retired S-I killed over illicit relations in Muzaffarnagar

Saturday, 20 May 2023 | PNS | Lucknow

In a brutal killing over illicit relations, a retired Dalit police inspector, Garibdas, was killed by one Zarif Ansari, who hit him nine times in 17 seconds with a shovel.

The assailant later surrendered before the police and confessed to having killed the retired sub-inspector who was having an affair with his wife.

The incident took place in Sikhera village under Sikhera police station of Muzaffarnagar.

Garibdas, who retired from the post of sub-inspector of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), was sitting at a pesticide shop in the village on Thursday evening and was engaged in conversation with the shopkeeper when Zarif Ansari of the same village reached there and repeatedly hit him with a shovel. Ansari hit Garibdas on his head and neck, causing grievous injuries. The victim was brutally struck nine times with the shovel in just 17 seconds until he fell in a pool of blood and died on the spot.

The entire episode was captured on the CCTV camera outside the shop. Afterwards, the assailant left the dying man and went to the police station, along with the weapon, and admitted to the crime.

The police team rushed to the spot and took the retired cop to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

During interrogation, Ansari confessed that his wife was having an illicit relationship with Garibdas, and this pushed him to carry out the heinous act.

Meanwhile, in another shocking incident, a man was brutally hacked to death by his brother-in-law who was against the marriage of the victim with his sister.

The marriage was solemnised 10 months back but the accused was still having enmity with the family so he executed the killing on Thursday night.

According to the police, Ahsan (26) of Khatakhedi in Kotwali Mandi police area of Saharanpur had eloped ten months ago with Imrana, sister of Rabbu (30), who lives in the same locality. A love affair was going on between the two. After this, the relatives got them married.

It may be mentioned that eight years ago, Rabbu’s brother Shahzad had eloped with Ahsan’s sister Afsana and had a love marriage with her. According to the police, the marriage of Ahsan and Imrana was solemnised with the consent of both the families, but still Rabbu was annoyed with the development.

On Thursday evening, Rabbu had set up a watermelon stall at some distance from the house in Khatakhedi. Just then, Ahsan came there. An argument broke out between Rabbu and Ahsan. Rabbu suddenly took a cleaver and attacked Ahsan, injuring him critically

Ahsan, who was also a fruit seller, died before he could be shifted to hospital.

Later Kotwali Mandi Inspector Dharmendra Singh along with a police team reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.

A case was registered against Rabbu and efforts were on to nab him.

Sources said that three CCTV cameras are installed at the place where the murder took place. The police have saved the footage of all the three CCTVs and also seized the cleaver used in the crime.
