Over 3,000 individuals face section 107 CrPC in Palamu police range

Thursday, 19 October 2023 | PNS | DALTONGANJ

A record 3,509 individuals face section 107 of CrPC in 3 districts of the police range here Garhwa, Latehar and Palamu.

IG of police Palamu range R K Lakra said it's 2000 individuals in Palamu, 608 in Garhwa and 901 in Latehar district. These people are to be served notices of 107 CrPC.

Asked if such a huge number is any indication of indiscriminate and indiscreet use or invocation to the section 107 of the CrPC against 3,509 people as the law of the land asks for caution and justification for invoking this section of the CrPC in such a wholesale fashion to which IG said "It's a legitimate identification. It is not indiscriminate. It's for law and order and public tranquility."

'Tamila of 107 notices' is equally an arduous job as identifying or justifying an individual to be a 'potential nuisance' is not easy also to which IG reiterated  "The sub divisional magistrates are expected to work it out faster. Proper verification has been done. Antecedence of the individuals not in accordance with law has been taken into account for 107 section."

"There are 202 Puja pandals in all in these 3 districts out of 1,302 Puja pandals to have been declared as sensitive. It is sensitive for reasons of law and order and also having a tinge of communalism" reminded the IG.

The breakup of the sensitive Puja pandals is as follows - 66 in Palamu, 89 in Garhwa and 47 in Latehar.  However when it comes to matching with the figure of invocation of section 107 of the CrPC against the individuals, the tally is a misfit. 89 Puja pandals in Garhwa district are sensitive. Here in Garhwa district 608 individuals face section 107 of the CrPC. 66 Puja pandals in Palamu are sensitive and here a hopping 2,000 individuals. are to be slapped with 107 CrPC notices.

The total number of Puja pandals in this Palamu police range is 1,302, out of which 581 are in Palamu, 575 in Garhwa and 146 in Latehar district.

The IG commenting on this said " Proper verification of past incidence related to the individuals have been done. It's not that it is being done in any ill prepared way."

There are 150 quick response teams in all in these three districts. Stating this IG gave a breakup like 83 in Palamu, 42 in Garhwa and 30 in Latehar.

Apart from section 107 of the CrPC police have opened 'Goonda Panji' in these 3 districts and here too Garhwa tops with 100 while Latehar has 64 and Palamu 86.

Central security forces, India Reserve Battalion, district armed police etc will be pressed in during the peak of the Durga Puja.

Bihar, UP and Chhatisgarh touch with our districts in this range and as Chhatisgarh is a poll bound state now there is a great need to be extra vigilant reminded the IG.
