A mother-son duo was killed while five other family members were injured in a cylinder blast at their house in Lakhimpur Kheri on Friday morning.
According to reports, Mohammad Nabi aka Nanhe (40) of Dabora village of Shahjahanpur, lived on rent in Babbu’s house in Jang Bahadurganj along with his wife Halima (30) and son Zeeshan (14). There was a sudden explosion at around 6 am on Friday, following which the house collapsed.
The blast was so strong that a neighbouring house also suffered damage. Several members of both the families found themselves buried under the debris. Neighbours and locals started the rescue operation and also informed police.
The police reached the spot and with the help of the people, pulled out the people from under the debris. They were sent to a hospital, where doctors declared Halima and Zeeshan brought dead.
Mohd Nabi, landlord Babbu, his wife Peer Bano, daughter Alina and Mohd Shamshad were among those injured.
In another incident in Mirzapur, a brother-sister duo and their nephew died in a dumper-car collision near Samogra of Dehat Kotwali on National Highway (NH) 135.
Four other family members were injured in the mishap. They were admitted to the District Hospital from where two of them were referred to Varanasi as their condition was stated to be critical.
Reports said Amarnath’s wife Kalavati, a resident of Sherpur Mohammadabad village in Chakia area of Chandauli, expressed her desire to visit Maihar to worship the goddess. Amarnath, along with his son Vikas, daughter-in-law Jyoti Vishwakarma, elder daughter-in-law Kusum Vishwakarma of Chandauli and brother Muneeb Vishwakarma, sister-in-law Laxmina Vishwakarma and nephew Roshan Vishwakarma (all of Morri in Kaimur, district Bhabua, in Bihar) took a car to visit Maihar Mata.
On Thursday night, they left for Madhya Pradesh, with Vikas Vishwakarma driving the vehicle. As the car reached near Samogra village of NH 135, a speeding tanker collided with the car in which Kalavati and her brother Muneeb were killed while other family members were critically injured and were shifted to the hospital.
Meanwhile two minor sisters died under mysterious circumstances on Thursday allegedly after consuming toffees in a village in Kaushambi district, police said. The incident took place in the village under Kada Dhaam police station area, they said.
Circle Officer Awadhesh Vishwakarma said, “Sadhna (7) and her sister Shalini (4) became unwell after consuming some toffees in the morning. They were rushed to a hospital by the family members, but they succumbed during treatment.”
Two other girls, Versha (7) and Arushi (4), who lived in the neighbourhood, also consumed the toffees and were admitted to a hospital, police said.
“According to the complaint lodged by the father of Sadhna and Shalini, the toffees were given by a neighbour. We have registered an FIR and investigations are on,” the CO said.
