Int’l call centre busted, 7 arrested in G’gram

A cyber crime police station team of the Gurugram police have busted an international call centre on the intervening night of Thursday and arrested 7 people, police said. The alleged call centre was being run in sector 67, Gurugram where foreign nationals are being defrauded on the pretext of technical support.

The accused mostly targeted foreign nationals of Australia and the United States of America by sending them fake e-mails by impersonating tech support representatives from PayPal, Amazon and Norton. The accused were identified as Mohammad Zafar Iqbal (38), Noor Hussain (28), Sumit (32), Abhishek Mishra (30), Sheikh Ibrahim (28), Abhishek Gupta (35), and Mohammad Adil (32) “All the suspects were arrested as per the charges levelled against them under relevant sections of the IPC for running call centre illegally without any valid license,” Vipin Ahlawat, ACP (cybercrime) said.

The victims were told that they have been wrongly charged for purchasing phone or other services and they will help them to get their money refunded and asked the victims to transfer gift cards in denominations of 250-500 Dollars as service charges. The suspects even manipulate the victims to install remote access apps like (Any desk) in their computer system and got details of their bank accounts and credit cards to cheat them.
