SPECIAL MO BUS SERVICE TO PURI

Bhubaneswar: The Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) has decided to provide special Mo Bus service to Puri from June 22 to 27 on the occasion of Rath Yatra. On the other hand, the Mo Bus service for route numbers 7, 8 and 52 shall remain suspended till June 30 due to traffic restrictions in Puri.

 

TPWODL LABOURER DIES ON DUTY

Sambalpur: A worker, Murati Bariha (36) engaged by Himanshu Panda, a TPWODL project contractor, died on Wednesday while working at a height on a double pole structure near Mandelia at Khetrajour here. "We at TPWODL are saddened about sudden demise of Murati Bariha," a company release stated.

 

JUNIOR ENGINEER HELD TAKING BRIBE IN SAMBALPUR

Cuttack: The Vigilance police on Wednesday caught Pranati Sahu, Junior Engineer, Batemura and Bargoan GPs under Maneswar block in Sambalpur district while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000. Sahu had demanded the bribe from a Gram Sathi to hand over measurement books and all related documents in respect of road works executed by him under the MGNREG scheme in Maneswar block. Following the trap, simultaneous searches were carried out on the premises of Sahu.

 

ILS CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY  

Bhubaneswar: On the International Yoga Day, the Institute of Life Sciences, Bhubaneswar organised a special yoga practice session on the relevance of yoga on human body, breath and mind. The session was conducted by experts Dr Manorama Panigrahy and Nancy Sharma, who demonstrated simple yoga exercises to the participants that could be practised both at homes and workplaces. ILS Director Dr Debasis Dash spoke on this year’s theme “Yoga for Humanity” and emphasised on the numerous benefits of yoga for physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing.

 

RATH YATRA HELD IN VSS NAGAR  

Bhubaneswar: The Shri Shri Bhubaneswari Seva Sanskruti Parishad organised a Rath Yatra at VSS Nagar here on Tuesday. The Holy Trinity began the yatra from DL Colony Bhubaneswari temple in a decorated chariot and reached the Adap Mandap. Chhera Pahanra was performed by organisation president  Jayant Parida. Secretary Pratap Kumar Nanda  held the Pahandi Bije. Vice-president Prasant Sarangi, treasurer Niranjan Nanda,  Dharanidhar Raut, Premananda Lenka, Nabinn Kumar Bhukta and many members participated in the Rath Yatra. MLA Susant Kumar Raut, Commissioner of Police Saumendra Priyadarshi and Priyadarshi  Mishra were the guests, said Parishad  general secretary Dillip Dashsharma.

 

BOY DROWNS IN RIVER IN BALESWAR

Baleswar: A 14-year-old boy drowned in river Budhabalanga in Baleswar district on Wednesday while taking bath. The deceased was identified as Om Prakash Kar, a resident of Manikhamb village under the Town police station. Om Prakash was swept away by strong currents. Onlookers said they tried to save him but in vain.

 

SAND ARTIST SATYA BUILDS NANDIGHOSH WITH NEWSPAPERS 

Brahmapur: Sand artist Satya Moharana of Brahmapur made Nandighosh Rath using old newspapers. Last year, he had come to limelight by making the smallest chariot (1 mm) of the world. This year, he prepared Nandighosh Rath of height seven inches weighing 4.5 gram. The chariot is built so beautifully that it looks exactly like Nandighosh Rath of Puri, which has 16 wheels, four horses, two reverse parrots, Dadhinauti, Patitapaban flag and Sarathi. He took only one day to make the chariot. Earlier Satya had created world Record in making the smallest chariot of one mm. His art of Nandighosh chariot of one cm is recognised in India Book Records.

 

WOMEN SPECIAL CHARIOT PULLED IN ATHAGARH  

Athagarh: Along with the chariot of Lord Attali Jagannath pulled here, a women special chariot adorned with Lords Jagannath, Balabhadra and Sudarsan and Goddess Subhadra was pulled exclusively by women devotees and it reached the Mausima temple in time. Thousands of devotees congregated to take part in pulling of the chariots.

 

RATH YATRA HELD AT JINDAL NAGAR  

Angul: Rath Yatra was celebrated at Devbhoomi, Jindal Nagar, with thousands of devotees participating in the festival. The chariots were pulled from the temple in Devbhoomi to the Gundicha temple in the township. Jindal Steel & Power (JSP) chairman Naveen Jindal, along with JSP Foundation chairperson Shallu Jindal joined the festival as prime servitors.
