Fulfilling promises made in elections is a challenge to govt

Monday, 25 December 2023 | Staff Reporter | BHOPAL

It is a big challenge for the Madhya Pradesh government to fulfill the populist promises made to win the elections before the Lok Sabha elections.

On one hand, there is pressure from the public and the opposition to fulfill the promises of the government. At the same time, the economic condition of the state is poor. The situation is such that the Mohan Yadav government needs to take a loan from the RBI as soon as it assumes power.

In fact, within two weeks of taking oath, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has sought a loan of Rs 2,000 crore from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to meet the state's expenses. Along with this, Madhya Pradesh seems to be burdened with debt.

In fact, current Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has inherited a loan of about Rs 4 lakh crore from former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan.

The Laadli Behna Yojana of former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is considered to be the reason for BJP's big victory. The state is having to pay a heavy price for this. In fact, Shivraj Singh Chouhan government had borrowed Rs 44,000 crore in 2023 alone. This also includes a loan of Rs 5,000 crore taken during the implementation of the Election Code of Conduct. It is believed that a large part of it was spent on the Ladli Behna scheme.

Now, after the arrival of the new government, the treasury of the state government is empty. At the same time, he also has a long list of election promises. In such a situation, BJP is afraid that if it is not completed, it will have a bad impact on the Lok Sabha elections and if it is completed, the state will be burdened with even bigger debt.

However, Chief Minister Yadav has assured the Assembly that there is "no economic crisis" in the state. Along with this, he has assured that no welfare scheme will stop due to lack of funds.

He said that some people have raised issues and said that the schemes will be stopped. Rejecting this he said that it is an unnecessary fear.

He said that no scheme including Ladli Lakshmi Yojana will be stopped. CM Yadav said that BJP's manifesto is like Ramayana and Geeta. Along with fulfilling the new promises, he also assured that all the schemes of the previous government will also continue.

At the same time, the opposition Congress has alerted the government regarding the increasing debt on the state.

Party spokesperson Abbas Hafeez said that every citizen of Madhya Pradesh is drowned in debt. "Every child born in Madhya Pradesh is now in a debt of Rs 40,000.

He alleged that BJP is continuously pushing Madhya Pradesh towards bankruptcy. Along with this he asked in a questioning tone that when will they understand? Hafeez said that If Congress comes to power and forms the government, it will try to find new sources of revenue generation.

At the same time, Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Deora countered the allegations of Congress and said that instead of targeting the government in the debt issue, Congress should introspect on its crushing defeat. He said that if we need to borrow, we will borrow for development works like road construction, irrigation projects. Along with this, Deora alleged that the previous Congress governments of the state had also taken loans, but did not use them for development. Instead, they embezzled funds, he alleged.
