The state health department reported four new cases of dengue in provisional State capital Dehradun on Friday.
These cases were reported from Dehrakhas, Narayan Vihar Kargi, Madhu Vihar (GMS Road) and Pratap Nagar (Govind Garh) areas of the city. The district now has 16 patients of the vector borne disease that have been reported in this season.
The health department collected 51 samples of the patients for the Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) test and out of them four samples were found positive for the disease. A total of eight patients of the disease are undergoing treatment in different hospitals of the district, three are recuperating at home while five have recovered from the disease.
The department has declared an alert for the residents of Ajabpur Kalan, Bhandaribag, Pathribag, Singal Mandi , Patel Nagar and GMS Road areas of the city.
The district vector borne diseases officer Subhash Joshi said that source reduction activity and awareness campaign against the disease is being undertaken by the department.
Dengue is a viral infection spread by the mosquito Aedes Aezypti popularly known as Tiger Mosquito. The symptoms of the disease are persistent high fever, rashes, headache and pain in the joints. In the acute cases the platelets number decreases drastically which may prove fatal for the patient.
