In a tragic incident, as many as three members of a family sustained critical burn injuries when an LPG cylinder exploded at Puruna village under the Nilagiri police limits in Baleswar district on Thursday.
According to reports, the mishap took place when cooking was underway in the house. While the cylinder blasted due to an unknown reason, firecrackers kept inside a shop located next to the house caught fire. The house and the nearby shop were severely damaged in the explosion.
The victims were rescued and rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.
On being informed, Fire Service personnel rushed to the spot and doused the flames.
“Firecrackers were kept in a bag in the shop, for which the situation worsened. The house collapsed under the impact of the blast. The situation is currently under control,” a Fire Service official said.
