On the occasion of its Foundation Day, the department of Pharmacology, AIIMS Bhopal, hosted a 2 -day National Conference "National PharmaCON 2023" on April 17 and 18.
The theme of this conference is "Improving Prescribing Practices- Roles and Responsibilities". The inaugural address of the conference was delivered by Dr. Ajai Singh, Executive Director, AIIMS, Bhopal who stressed on the need for rational prescribing of medicines. Dr. Balakrishnan S, Professor, and head, presented a brief overview of the achievements of the department in the first decade of its existence and vision for the next 5 years. Dr. Balakrishnan S and Dr. Shilpa Kaorewere the organizing chairperson and organizing secretary of the conference, respectively. This national conference was attended by fifty delegates from Medical institutions all over India.
At this conference, the talks on various aspects of improvement of prescribing practices were delivered by eminent speakers from Academia and the Industry, both from India and abroad.
The foundation day oration on "Selection of Essential Medicines" was delivered by Dr Y.K. Gupta, President, AIIMS Bhopal.Dr. Nilima A.Kshirsagar, former National Chair Clinical Pharmacology ICMR discussed on "ICMR online course for Prescribing Skills". Dr SP Dhaneria, Ex- dean, AIIMS Raipur discussed on "Prescribing in the Elderly".
Other topics included in the first day of conference were "Generic Drug Prescribing- a Pharmaceutical Perspective" discussed by Siddharth Gadia, co-founder of Zeno health,"E-prescribing, and Sale of Medicines" discussed by Dr. Devesh Gosavi, Professor of Pharmacology at MGIMS, Sewagram "Off-label Use of Medicines and its regulatory aspects" discussed by Dr. Deepak Langade, Professor of Pharmacology, DY Patil Medical College, Mumbai "an overview of Drug and Therapeutics Committee" discussed by Dr Shubham Atal, Associate Professor, Pharmacology, AIIMS Bhopal and "Career Opportunities for students Pursuing MD Pharmacology" by Dr. Sreekanth Gattu, Global Program head, Sandoz BioPharmaceuticals, Switzerland.
