Bhopal Tamil Sangam (BTS) celebrated the Tamil New Year 2023, also known as Tamil Puthandu in a truly festive atmosphere at Sree Narayana Mission Guru Mandir old Subhash Nagar Bhopal here on Sunday.
During the evening, song and dance performances were held followed by awards distribution. Bhopal Tamil Sangam, an organization that celebrates South Indian culture.
A day that signifies renewal, Puthandu is a time for families and friends to share a meal, exchange gifts and pray for a peaceful and prosperous year ahead. It all began after the exchange of new year greetings with one another followed by lighting the ceremonial oil lamp by Chief guest M Kali Durai IFS Addl. PCCF MP Forest Department Bhopal The event started with an introductory speech, honoring guests of Honour V Chandrasekar General Manager and Head IREL India Ltd Dept. of Atomic Energy Gov of India , Special guest Shri Sakthi Perumal President Delhi Tamil Sangam , R Mukunthan, Ashokan. C , L. M Anantha Padmanabham, Dr S Suresh Kumar and Sarita Rajan was present on the occasion.
Besides, other special guests along with the residents and members also graced the event and wished each other for the prosperous New Year ahead. The prayer and the welcome note for the guests and the Honorable Chief guest added a light of inspiration to the event.
Chief Guest of the event, M. Kali Durai said, "I wish everyone celebrating Puthandu a very happy new year. May this new year bring you health, happiness and prosperity! Iniya Puthandu Nalvazhthukka."
V. Chadrasekar said, "Puthandu is the term for the Tamil new year. It is the celebration of the first day of the Tamil new year. The new year celebration in India according to the Hindu calendars in different parts of the country usually takes place in the months of March-April. Puthandu, the people of Tamil Nadu celebrate their new year generally on April 14 according to the Gregorian calendar. It is also known by different names such as ‘Chithirai Tiru Naal’ and ‘Varushap Pirappu’.
The Tamil people welcome each other by exchanging words such as ‘Iniya Tamizh Puthandu Nalvaazhthukkal’ or simply ‘Puthandu Vazthukal’. It is also known as the yellow harvest festival of India.
He also congratulated members of the Bhopal Tamil Sangam in general and those of his Executive Committee in particular for their unstinted cooperation, quantified by love, respect and adoration for the Tamil language and culture.
