Historical Bantony Castle thrown open for General Public in Shimla

Shimla: Himachal Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated the newly renovated Bantony Castle complex and said that it has been transformed into a vibrant reflection of our culture and history. He said that the restored Bantony Castle complex now stands as a testament to Shimla's rich heritage and promises to be a cultural treasure house for generations to adore and learn about the iconic building and the history of 'Shyamla', now Shimla.  Revamped at a cost of Rs. 25 crore, it has infused a new life into three historical marvels within the complex. Spanning across 20,000 square meters, the newly renovated marvel boasts of stunning Anglo-Gothic architecture and is expected to be a major attraction for tourists and locals.  Terming this as an architectural masterpiece, Sukhu said that visitors to the Bantony Castle can now explore captivating exhibits dedicated to various facets of history, which include insights into Mahatma Gandhi's visits to Shimla, detailed biographies of Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar and Satyanand Stokes, a comprehensive history of Shimla city and a tribute to the Bravehearts of Indian freedom struggle. The rich culture of the tribal area of Spiti offering a glimpse into the region's unique traditions will also be on display, the CM added.

Drug-Free Hry Cyclothon to enter Panchkula on Sept  23

Panchkula: The Drug-Free Haryana Cyclothon will enter Panchkula on September 23. This cyclothon has been given the theme of 'Ek Cycle Yatra, Nasha Mukti Ke Naam'. Deputy Commissioner Sushil Sarwan said that all necessary arrangements have been made by the district administration to make this cyclothon a grand success. “This will be a successful event and the message of de-addiction will reach every person in the district”, he added.
 
Punjab CM launches his new Whatsapp channel

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday launched his new Whatsapp channel with an aim to further get directly connected with the people and make them equal partners in the state’s socio-economic growth. Launching the channel, the Chief Minister described it as a citizen-centric decision aimed at ensuring better connection with the masses. “People can join the channel through the link and get the updates about the pro-people and development-oriented policies of the State Government. This noble initiative will go a long way in making the people of the state an integral part of the governance in the state,” he said, while urging the people to join the Whatsapp group for regular updates about various pro-people initiatives being taken by the State Government.
 
Punjab Tech Edu Dept introduces 9 new courses

Chandigarh: To equip the state’s youth with relevant skills to meet the demands of the contemporary job market, Punjab Technical Education and Industrial Training Department has introduced nine new-age courses, which would be taught in Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the State. “The new-age courses such as Multimedia Animation and Special Effects, Smartphone Technician-cum-App Tester, Additive Manufacturing Technician (3D Printing), Lift and Escalator Mechanic, Drone Technician, Advanced CNC Machining, IoT Technician (Smart Agriculture), Solar Technician and Mechanic Electric Vehicle, are added in the existing courses,” said the state Technical Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains.

Bajwa backs RaGa’s demand for quota for OBCs

Chandigarh: Justifying the former Congress president and MP Rahul Gandhi's demand for quota for Other Backward Classes (OBC) within the 33 per cent of seats proposed to be reserved for women under the Women's Reservation Bill, the Leader of Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha Partap Singh Bajwa on Thursday said that it was the need of the hour. “Congress has already presented data on the floor of the House today which says that among 90 secretaries of the GoI, only three persons belong to OBC and control five per cent of India’s budget. This shows how underrepresented the OBCs are,” he said, adding that the Centre must prepare for a caste census so that the women of SCs, STs, and OBC could also be given reservations.

Punjab VB arrests PSPCL lineman for taking Rs 35k bribe for restoring power connection

Chandigarh:  Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Thursday arrested lineman Ranjit Kumar, posted at PSPCL office Goneana in Bathinda district, for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 35,000. Spokesperson said that the said official has been arrested on the complaint of Jaswinder Singh, resident of Ablu village in Bathinda district who have lodged a complaint on the Chief Minister's Anti-Corruption Action Line alleging that the lineman had taken Rs 35,000 for restoring power connection to his tubewell as eight poles had been broken due to storm in April this year. The complainant has recorded the conversation with the said official regarding payment of bribe money which was submitted to the VB as evidence.

Chandigarh state closed squash rackets tournament starts from Oct 13

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh State Closed Squash Rackets Tournament will be held from October 13 to 15, 2023, at the Lake Sports Complex, Squash Courts, Chandigarh. Players can register for the tournament on the SRFI Mobile App by paying the entry fee of Rs 500 online. The Tournament shall be for Men and Women (seniors); and for juniors the categories are Under-19 (boys and girls), U-17 (boys and girls), U-15 (boys and girls), U-13 (boys and girls), U-11 (boys and girls). Masters categories for men over 35, over 45 and over 55 years of age shall also be organized. Last date for submitting entries online is October 4. The draw shall be held by Squash Rackets Federation of India and intimated online.

Punjab’s Harmanpreet named Indian contingent’s flag-bearer for Asian Games

Chandigarh: Indian Hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh and Olympic Medalist Boxer Lovlina Borgohain have been made the flag-bearers of the Indian Contingent for the Asian Games in Hangzhou. Indian Contingent will participate in the march past of the Opening Ceremony on September 23. Congratulating Amritsar’s Harmanpreet, Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer on Thursday said that it is a matter of pride for Punjab and Hockey. He expressed hope that in the coming two weeks, Indian players will bring glory to the name of the country in the Asian Games with their great performance.

About 70-80% of those affected by dementia are diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease: Experts

Mohali: “As old age progresses, dementia, also termed as the disease of forgetfulness, becomes synonymous with the elderly. However, the occurrence of dementia is not limited to age alone. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia and about 70-80% of those affected by dementia are diagnosed with the disease,” said Dr Amit Shankar Singh, Consultant, Neurology, Fortis Hospital Mohali. To raise awareness on Alzheimer’s disease and remove the misconceptions surrounding it, World Alzheimer’s Day is observed on September 21 every year.
