Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday met six newly-elected mayors at his official residence and directed them to make their respective municipal corporations 'self-reliant' in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Atma Nirbhar Bharat.
The chief minister also instructed all the mayors to promote a positive image of the municipal corporations, from boosting the income of the municipal corporations to resolving local issues with the support of public representatives.
The chief minister also advised all the mayors to do “something good” and “something new” and gave them the necessary suggestions.
He also asked them to be active and alert in solving regional problems. He asked the mayors to give priority to the work of underground cabling, as well as solid waste management and liquid waste management. In addition, guidelines were issued to address the persistent issue of stray dogs in urban areas.
During the meeting, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath asked the mayors to concentrate on increasing the income of municipal corporations and making them self-reliant.
He advised them on exploring additional sources of income, particularly through the improvement of municipal taxation. He said that facilities should be made available to citizens so they could conveniently deposit their taxes.
The chief minister instructed the mayors to maintain regular communication and foster coordination with public representatives.
Expressing concern over illegal taxi stands, the chief minister said that action should be taken to remove illegal taxi stands in urban areas. He directed the authorities to focus on identifying alternative solutions to ensure that common people do not face any kind of problem.
The chief minister also gave instructions to prioritise the implementation of the Integrated Traffic Management System at all major intersections, where it had not yet been done.
Moradabad Mayor Vinod Agarwal, Varanasi Mayor Ashok Tiwari, Kanpur Nagar Mayor Pramila Pandey, Bareilly Mayor Umesh Gautam, Firozabad Mayor Kamini Rathore and Saharanpur Mayor Ajay Kumar Singh were among the mayors who met the chief minister.
